“You too,” Sally and Angela said as they walked away.

“She seems like a nice girl,” Sally said following them with her eyes.

“She’s younger than me too. I would say closer in age to Abby.” Angela’s dark glasses allowed her to watch Abby and Lauren greet the guards down the beach. “Do you want to go back to the house?” Angela asked turning to her sister.

“No. This is our last day and then it’s back to school. I’m going to enjoy every moment.”

Angela started getting out of her chair.

“Don’t run off, Angie. Remember, you have no interest in Abby that way. Let the girl be happy.”

“Of course I want her to be happy. I would hate for her to wait for me because it never was going to happen.”

“It’s too late now even if you did change your mind,” Sally said shaking her head.

As Abby and Lauren were walking back to Jill’s stand, she asked. “You don’t have to rush off, do you?”

“No. What did you have in mind?” Lauren asked stopping.

“I wanted to ask Jill to have a burger with us. We can go in town so she could go off with her friends afterwards.”

“That’s nice of you.” Lauren smiled and they continued walking.

“I promise our next date will be more private.” Abby promised.

“Oh, you’re so sure there will be a next date?” Lauren asked with a laugh.

“A girl could only hope.”

“Come on, let’s go ask Jill,” Lauren said pulling on Abby’s hand.

“Hey, Jill.” Abby called up to her. “Would you like to go have a burger with Lauren and me when you’re done today?”

“Sure, Coach. I’d like that.”

“Okay, we’ll pick you up at five thirty.” They turned toward the beach exit. “Let’s sit on a bench and wait for her.”

At five Jill and her guard partner laid the station down and collected the flags and other paraphilia to the box on the beach. Then she walked over to her mother.

“Mom, I’m going to go have a burger with Abby and Lauren. That’s okay, right?”

“Of course, honey,” Angela said.

“Bye Aunt Sally. See you later, mom.”

“See you in school, Jill,” Sally said before Jill ran for the beach exit. “That was nice of Abby to ask her.”

“Abby’s a nice person,” Angela said not meeting her sister’s intense stare.

Sally shook her head. “All I’ll say, is that could have been you. Abby’s crazy about Jill. How many other women have you dated even showed any interest in your daughter?”

“None,” Angela said softly. “I know, I know. I didn’t give Abby a chance.”

“Tell me the truth,” Sally said touching her arm. “Were you really not attracted to her?”

“Not in the beginning. I thought she was too butch, but as I saw her off the beach, she softened up.”

“So why didn’t you reciprocate her affections?”

“I don’t know. I was scared that once we got in bed, I wouldn’t feel the attraction.”

“Well, I guess you’ll never know,” Sally said with a shake of her head.

“Can we leave now?” Angela asked.

“Yes.”

They collected their things and walked back to the house.
